So came to find out today that Filebot is no longer free.
FileBot Portable is a professional software application whose purpose is to help you organize and rename your media files, download subtitles, fetch episodes from TheTVDB, AniDB, TVRage,.
From my understanding of looking at the github code as well for filebot that for anyone who is not using the windows 10 store version or the MacOS store/app manager version will start getting an annoying nag for now on until they decide to update to the store version of filebot (which is currently priced at $20)..
Edit: seems I made a mistake about the portable version being gone as the portable version is still around and being updated, dunno how long it'll be around for sadly though as rednoah seems to be trying to enforce the store version.. Dunno how bad the nag is yet as I have yet to experience it thankfully..
Edit2: For anyone that has or is doing the following
- Promo Codes are available for anyone who has donated more than $5 before 2012 or more than $10 before 2014 or more than $20 before 2016.
- Promo Codes can be earned by helping out here in the forums. If you're a FileBot Pro, then earning yourself a Promo Code is a piece of cake. ;)
- Promo Codes are available to any and all open-source developers that have contributed anything of value to any open-source project (developers, maintainers, designers, translators, etc).
- If you're affiliated with any of the projects or services that FileBot is built on (e.g. MediaInfo, TheTVDB, etc) then you can have promo codes for you and all your friends.
- Do regularly contribute to society without expecting to get paid? e.g. suicide hotline, language teaching for immigrants, voluntary fire and rescue service, etc. You most definitely deserve a promo code!
You can request a free Promo code for the windows 10 version from rednoah by PMing him on filebots forums. [ Thanks again /u/rednoah ]
Edit3: I should make this clear that I believe this is only happening on windows 10. Mac version was already a paid program and I believe linux versions are currently free (as well as the msi/exe version for windows 7 and windows 8).
So as it currently stands -
Windows 7/8 = Free
Windows 10 = Paid (portable version is free) [msi/exe version will force you to windows app store]
Mac = Paid
Linux = Free

FileBot is a program full of interesting features that's perfect for those who love TV series and anime.
First off, it allows you to rename a large number of episodes that have been saved to your computer so that you can label them appropriately and find them much more easily.
Also, you'll have direct access to the databases of websites like TVRage, AniDB, TV.com, IMDb, and The TVDB, from which you can copy the names of all the episodes of any TV show in just seconds.
FileBot's most interesting function allows you easy access to OpenSubtitles, Subscene, Sublight, and SubtitleSource so that you can download subtitles in any language you choose.
Another function lets you check the functionality of SFV files, which are normally used to secure large archives of compressed files.
FileBot is an interesting program for anyone who watches a lot of TV shows on their computer, which, nowadays, includes the majority of us.
